sea view yacht club
Sea View Yacht Club, established in 1893, occupies a unique location right on the waterfront of picturesque Seaview village on the north-east shores of the Isle of Wight. The Club enjoys views across the Solent to Portsmouth, its harbour and over to the harbours of Langstone and Chichester.
The Club is built on one of Henry VIII’s chain of sea-defence forts, so the outlook is excellent, with an almost 270 degree vista across the Solent from Southampton Water round to the Nab Tower and the deep-water shipping channels. The race-courses offered to sailMermaids charterers are arranged around a network of buoys laid just off the Club in waters recognised to be some of the best in the Solent for racing. Spectators get an excellent grandstand view from the Club’s decks of all the racing. On-water spectating can also be arranged.
Sea View Yacht Club clubhouse has changing and showering facilities as well as two bars and two dining areas. On days when the weather is fair (the Isle of Wight has more days of sunshine than other parts of England), sailMermaids charterers can take breakfast and lunch out on the deck, admiring the Solent views and enjoying the sunshine. The clubhouse has business meeting facilities.
Sea View Yacht Club’s professional boatmen ferry crews to their Mermaids and offer assistance in rigging them. They then provide safety-boat cover and bring sailors ashore at the end of each race series. For a moderate additional fee, a number of guests can be taken out in a Club motorboat to enjoy close-quarters spectating.
All charterers receive Club temporary membership during their stay and are invited to extend it to full membership if they wish.
